Is Psoriasis Contagious?

How many times people asked you if psoriasis is contagious? I’ve been asked that question by almost all of my friends and families since a tiny psoriasis spot appeared on my hand. I always said “no” but I had no idea. At the time, I wasn’t even sure what I was suffering from. The only reason why I said it wasn’t contagious was because none of my family members were suffering from psoriasis.

Only after I started researching about psoriasis, I come to understand the science behind it, and learned psoriasis is NOT contagious. Because psoriasis is not infectious, it is not contagious. Psoriasis can’t be transmitted in any way. Yes, genetics play a role, but other than that, there is no proven way of psoriasis being transmitted to someone.

I always self-assured that psoriasis wasn’t contagious by reminding what my dermatologist told me. She told me if psoriasis was contagious, she should’ve been covered with it because she’s been treating psoriasis patients for over a decade. Well, it made sense to me back then and I always used that story to convince my friends that they don’t have to worry about touching my hands.

The only person who didn’t ask me if it was contagious? yes.. my wife. Before we got married, she never asked me if she can catch psoriasis by holding my hands. I still remember, she was the first person to hold my hand without hesitation. :)
